Happy Mother’s Day!
Today, I’m thinking a lot about my mother. I see her in the rooms as I walk through them, remembering her smile, her laughter, and the heartaches she endured. Leaving her home of 51 years and moving into our home had to be one of the saddest days of her life, next to the one when she said goodbye for the last time to her beloved husband with the breath of a kiss to send him to God.
But, she never let the tears show after she stepped into her new home. On the first night here, she sat on the edge of her bed with her head hanging low, the darkness surrounding her. I whispered from the doorway, “Are you all right, Mom?”
She looked at me and said, “Yes. I’m just thanking God for all my many blessings.”
I have quilts that her hands made, tablecloths so beautifully embroidered, and her wedding ring rests on my finger. But the greatest gifts she bestowed are the memories. I miss her, but I know we will meet again one day in a beautiful place where there is no sorrow, no tears, no fear, no pain. And, I thank God for that wonderful gift on this Mother’s Day.
