Deck Writing

I’m sitting on our screened in deck watching the breeze move the leaves, while the sun reflects off the pond. What a gorgeous day! Perfect for stimulating the senses and activating the creative side of my brain. Just had to take a break from writing to…write a blog.

Recently I read a blog about why some writers cannot produce words while listening to music, but others find it the perfect way to crank out the words. Evidently it all boils down to whether you are right-brained or left-brained. Hah! I’ve taken those tests before and mine always comes out dead center! Not sure if that is necessarily a bad thing or a good thing. Perhaps it lends insight into why I’m able to see both sides of a conflict. But, as for music, I can only use a CD which is indecipherable music. No words or familiar notes, please. Just white noise. Or, like today, the sounds of nature. I enjoy hearing the birds chirping, insects buzzing, water trickling, traffic in the distance. On beautiful days like this, I can’t stand to sit at my desk inside. However, sitting here also puts me at risk for hubby’s need to chat. Okay, I guess I shouldn’t be too selfish. After all, he has a right to enjoy the deck, too!

I hope you are enjoying a day as beautiful as mine! Thanks for stopping by.
