I Timothy 2:1-3 “The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.” (The Message)
The election is over here in the United States. The mailboxes full of political literature will return to holding bills and the occasional letter or card from family and loved ones. The continual ringing of the telephone will cease. For that I’m grateful.
I was heartsick during the past few months over the hatred campaigns waged by politicians. Worse, the reason they continue to use these tactics is that they work. Humans are more apt to listen to the negative than the positive. We are caught up in juicy gossip, pointing fingers, and repeating the worst of what we hear. All of these things are weapons Satan uses to divide us. Don’t you think he had a wonderful time while we suffered through these bombardments of hatred?
Today I’m heartsick at how divided our country has become. I long for us to be the country our forefathers had in mind…one nation under God…indivisible…with liberty and justice for all. What I’m praying for is that “we the people” will put aside political differences and reach out in love and respect to one another.
I would encourage everyone to pray for our country, for our President, and for our government…to pray for peace and a bipartisan handshake of good faith to work together for the good of ALL the American people.
